Professional Experience:

Helen has over 30 years’ experience of quality improvement work in health care, from developing standards and administration processes for healthcare quality accreditation to service reviews, training in QI methods and undertaking qualitative evaluations of quality and safety interventions.

She  developed quality standards and assessment methodology for CHKS accreditation in the UK and advised on development of healthcare accreditation programmes in Denmark, Portugal, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia. Other areas of expertise include facilitation, network development and technical editing. She has experience in evaluations of patient safety programmes, person-centred care initiatives and methodologies for health care quality improvement. Consultancy projects have included: Implementation support to healthcare organisations piloting ISO 7101 healthcare quality management standard, project manager for a James Lind Alliance research priority setting programme for liver cirrhosis research, advising on development and implementation of a corporate quality strategy for an independent mental health provider, evaluation of a national Ovarian Cancer quality improvement programme, evaluations of national safety programmes for NHS England/NHS Improvement, evaluations of improvement programmes for Royal Colleges, developing a multi-level fellowship programme with The Healthcare Improvement Studies Institute at University of Cambridge and consultant to the Muscular Dystrophy UK (MDUK) Charity to develop an accreditation programme for Neuromuscular Centres of Excellence.  Helen is Editor-in-Chief of BMJ Open Quality an online journal dedicated to reporting quality improvement projects in healthcare.
