Professional Experience:
David is an accomplished global business leader, CEO, innovator, investor, board member, speaker, and executive coach, with 30 years of experience in technology innovation and digital transformation in healthcare. He has led strategy, innovation, digital transformation, marketing, sales, partnerships, M&As, and joint ventures on a global scale. David has held various P&L responsibilities at large publicly traded corporations, VC-funded startups, and not-for-profit institutions. David is also a lecturer at Kellogg Business School and Farley Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Northwestern University.
Key Projects undertaken
Mr. Qu formerly served as the Corporate Officer and Vice President of Software Technology, Digital Publishing, and Global Education at The Joint Commission Resources (TJC) and Joint Commission International (JCI). Under David’s leadership, the company developed Digital Tracer technology for healthcare institutions to conduct Tracers, Mock Survey, Patient Safety and Leadership Rounds. Over 3,000 global healthcare organizations subscribe to the platform to automate their accreditation, compliance and patient safety business. The Cloud-based software business delivered 12 consecutive years of high growth, and expanded to APAC, Middle East, EU, and South American regions of the international market. In addition, Mr. Qu ran JCI Practicum, The Joint Commission Journal for Quality and Patient Safety. Mr. Qu was instrumental to help launch new certification products such as Responsible Use of AI, Health Equity and Healthcare Sustainability. He was a key technology innovator and digital transformation leader for the organization.
In the previous 15 years, Mr. Qu held Senior Vice President and General Manager roles at Allscripts Healthcare Solutions (NASDAQ: MDRX), a leading public-traded Electronic Health Record (EHR) company. His areas of accomplishments include Healthcare Technology Interoperability, EHR Meaningful Use, HIE, Patient Engagement and Population Health. In addition, Mr. Qu served as the CEO at CellTrak Technology, a MK Capital-funded company, which became the North America and UK market leader and innovator of in-home and in-community care delivery solutions that allow both providers and payers to coordinate and provide care. He also served as the founder and CEO of Netsteps Technology and sold the business to GTCR, a premier private equity investment firm, in 2001.
Mr. Qu has expertise in product strategy, innovation, sales, marketing, business development, customer engagement, distribution channels, operations, strategic partnerships, joint ventures, M&A, raising venture capital, divestiture, and turnaround. Over his career, he developed and managed over 100 strategic partnerships and business acquisitions. In addition, he has broad health care knowledge in acute care, ambulatory, home care, long-term care, HER, electronic prescription, health information exchange (HIE), patient engagement, digital health, population health management, accountable care organization, clinical decision support, data analytics, and health information technology interoperability.
Mr. Qu is a member of and writer for the Forbes Business Council; a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executive; and a Certified Professional of Healthcare Quality from NAHQ. He earned recognition of Executive Scholar of Professional Achievement from Kellogg Business School of Northwestern University and certification of Innovation and Entrepreneurship from Stanford School of Business. Mr. Qu is an investor and advisor of Purple Arch Ventures, Northwestern University’s alumni venture capital fund, and is presently on the Board of Relay Robotics. David also serves as Executive-in-Residence at MATTER, one of the largest digital health incubators and accelerators in the world.
Mr. Qu received an executive MBA Degree from Kellogg Business School of Northwestern University in 2005, and a master’s degree and undergraduate degree in Computer Science and Engineering in 1990 and 1993.
